Learning a second language like your mother tongue.

Let’s go back to when we first start speaking our first word. What is that word? Mama? Papa?

Then, what’re your second, third words? Mum, Um, Nom, or hungry, or food, your siblings’ names, or your pet’s name?

Then we start to develop little by little from listening and repeating what our parents and teachers say. all day, all night, days after days, until we finally are able to communicate on our own and call it our “mother tongue language.”

Then it comes to my curiosity. Why do we struggle to learn another language when we could successfully master our first language?

People usually say, “Well, it’s not my language.” Or. “There’re millions of people out there can do better than me.”…

Those are false beliefs. Nobody owns “Languages” now in the 21st century. I am working in a place that a woman from Italy speaks Japanese to me, and then I usually reply to her in both English and Japanese. But is that a problem? Not at all!

First of all, those false beliefs are like giant walls that you’re too scared to climb, and they block you.

Second of all, could we speak the first language as fluent as now right after we were born? NO! We listen, we repeat, we read and write words by words. So why don’t we start learning new languages like how we learned our first language?
